Understanding Medical Provider Networks (MPNs)
In California, most employers use Medical Provider Networks (MPNs) to provide care for injured workers. An MPN is a group of doctors and other healthcare providers approved by the employer's insurance company.
Your Rights
- You can choose your treating physician within the MPN
- You can switch doctors within the MPN
- After 30 days, you may be able to treat with your own doctor (if pre-designated)
- You can request a second opinion within the MPN
